San Geronimo Valley Planning Group

San Geronimo Commons

The Valley’s latest public open space is owned and operated by the Trust for Public Land. It’s located at 5800 Sir Francis Drake Blvd in San Geronimo. This 157-acre property is accessible from several locations: a large paved parking lot right off SFD Blvd at the main entrance; San Geronimo Valley Drive near Nicasio Valley Road by the bridge over San Geronimo Creek; the Top Flight Trail, which runs along W. Nicasio Road near Roy’s Redwoods (walking or biking access only); and Lagunitas School Road behind the gym.

White Hill

White Hill Preserve in Fairfax adjoins Cascade Canyon, Gary Giacomini, and Loma Alta preserves. The summit rises to 1,430 feet, and is accessible from the Woodacre end of our Valley.

Cascade Canyon

Located just over the ridge from the San Geronimo Valley, adjacent to the Woodacre portion of Giacomini Preserve.  Watch out for bikers on the single-track trail.

Loma Alta

Loma Alta Preserve has one of the highest overlooks in Marin at 1,592 feet. Access is from SFD Blvd, between the top of White’s Hill pass and the Hal Brown Bridge.

MMWD Watershed (and Leo Cronin Coho-Viewing Area)

The Marin Municipal Water District watershed is directly adjacent to the Giacomini Preserve and offers trails and service roads for hiking, biking and horseback riding.  There is also a small parking lot that is open from sunrise to sunset at the Leo Cronin fish viewing area, just west of Lagunitas on SFD Blvd, where you can hike into the watershed.

Samuel P Taylor State Park

This state park provides camping opportunities, as well as hiking, biking and horseback riding.  There is a level, paved trail that runs from the Tocaloma bridge on SFD Blvd to the park headquarters, and another dirt road that runs from the campground to the Inkwells on San Geronimo Creek in Lagunitas.

Playgrounds and Picnicking with Kids

Forest Knolls Park

Located at the corner of Montezuma Ave and Guadalupe Avenue in Forest Knolls. It includes a playground and picnic area.

Central Park, Woodacre

This park is owned and operated by the San Geronimo Community Center and is open to the public.  It has been the site of several displays of monuments created by local students.

Upper Campus, San Geronimo

A very nice playground is located at the Upper Campus at the Lagunitas School.  Drive to the end of Lagunitas School Road from SFD Blvd; the playground will be on the right, parking on the left.  Please use the playground only after school hours.
